School counselors MatterSchool counselors are on the front line of a student's social and emotional well-being. Counselors are often part of proactive strategies to address issues like bullying, depression, thoughts of suicide, or family concerns. When in crisis, school counselors are often the first mental health professional a student will see before being referred out for services.
In addition, school counselors help students manage their academics and help them prepare for their futures by teaching executive functioning skills, exposing students to potential careers and analyzing data to determine where our services are most needed. Simply put, school counselors are a huge part of the backbone of the school. At Hallie Wells Middle School, we strive to provide a comprehensive counseling program and to have an impact on every single student. If your child leaves Hallie Wells without ever knowing or speaking to their counselor, we haven't done our jobs. We invite you to learn more about the the role of a school counselor and the HWMS comprehensive counseling program.
